Sustainable housing and real estate in Kitchener-Waterloo Region

c21_logo_white_back_taglineblackI am a Realtor; a (lifelong) student of anthropology, international relations and peace and conflict transformation; a human rights advocate; and an avid reader (among other things). I decided to start this blog to help answer common real estate questions, talk about sustainable housing and to express my feelings about real estate and housing issues in the Kitchener-Waterloo region (including Cambridge).

I am hoping that people really start to see the benefits of sustainable housing, and that builders and housing codes will begin to reflect more sustainable options in the near future. Sustainable technologies just make sense. For the most part, they make economical, ecological and good health sense. There are so many options out there now, and many more yet to be discovered. Diversify. If you don’t like one option, there are many more to pic

A couple of years ago I decided to simplify my life by taking steps to be more sustainable. I am still far off from my ultimate goal, but am gettting closer every day. I am always interested in sharing tips on sustainability. I often post them on twitter. I’d love to hear your tips as well!

I love real estate, it’s exciting and interesting and filled with challenges. Once I started, I couldn’t get enough; but I am often frustrated by the notion of marketing and high pressure sales. I feel that being a Realtor is not primarily about sales, even though we are forced through our licencing to refer to ourselves as Sales Representatives.

nagab_logoThe Realtor is not the one who is selling or buying the property (unless we ourselves own or would like to own it); it is our clients who are. What happens in the process should be your decisions, not the Realtor’s. We are there only to facilitate the process. We are there for you to consult, to research properties and values for you,  to entice buyers to your property, to hold open houses, to listen to and try to understand your needs. Our job is all about understanding the nuances of the decisions people make, and trying to find a solution that is most suitable to solve any problems that may arise.

Realtors should be on your side, hired on by you as consultants to find out information about your purchase or sale, to advise you on the options that are out there, and suggest solutions to any obstacles you may have along the way. This is my personal philosophy and this is the way I try to run my business.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions- I’ll be happy to answer them for you! If I don’t know the answer personally, I will research it out for you!

I’d also love feedback!

Thanks, and happy reading.
